Tornado season

Well, tonight was another wild time in Oklahoma.  My son came over to have dinner with me and my husband was not home this evening.  We had just finished eating our Chinese take out when our good ole pal Travis Meyer from Channel 6 weather told us that there was a chance of this severe thunderstorm producing some circulation.  Aaron and I went outside to see the sky and decided we shouldn't be out there when we saw the whole sky swirling.  As we were going inside we heard Travis say they had upgraded the storm to a tornado warning,  we got in our "fraidy hole" under the stairs.  As Aaron was trying to get the cat in and close the door and as I was trying to sit my butt down (while holding onto something that in a few seconds I would realize was the crack of the door frame on the side of the door where the hinges are) we both heard a cracking noise and then some words came out of my mouth!  Two of my fingers were in the crack of the door while he was closing it!  We got out of the fraidy hole really fast and there were words coming out of poor Aaron's mouth (in between apologies).  We put ice on my fingers and got back in the hole.  We prayed, I nearly cried, he apologized some more, I told him it wasn't his fault and so on and so forth.

The tornado sirens never did go off until we heard on TV (turned up really loud) that the tornado had touched down just about 5 miles east of us.  We went outside and Aaron described the sky as looking like the four horsemen of the apocalypse were on the horizon.  Then he realized that the noise he was hearing was a neighbor mowing his lawn.  We went back inside and answered phone calls and text messages and let everyone know we were ok.

My thimble fingernail is crushed.....I think what really saved it is the acrylic nails that I've worn for years.  It's throbbing and I don't know whether to go to the doctor tomorrow or to my nail tech.  I guess I'll see how it looks in the morning .

Better news

I didn't want to leave my blog with the terrible news of the last post there for any longer.  Out of tragedy there are always heart warming stories.  I'm sure you've heard a lot of them.  One thing is that there were not as many deaths from the tornado in Moore, OK as we're originally reported.  There were 24 as opposed to the 51 reported initially.  While that makes us all feel better, it's still so sad for the 24 families who are burying their loved ones.

My older daughter's bridesmaid, Beth was hit hard by the tornado.  Her house was demolished but thankfully, she and her husband were both at work and unhurt.  Somehow all 6 of their pets were okay, too.  The pictures are of Beth's house.  People came from everywhere to help them salvage what was left.  Here is Calista helping with the clean up.

Tornado

The news coming out of Moore, OK is NOT good.  51 have been confirmed dead and search and rescue is going on into the night.  Children are missing in one of the elementary schools that was hit.
All of this is over 2 hours from me, but it's my state and I'm hurting for my fellow citizens.  Please be in prayer for those who have lost loved ones and for those who can't find their loved ones.  It's a sad night here.

The reason why I have a stash....well, one of the reasons!

I told my daughter I would make teacher gifts for Wesley's preschool teachers for the last day of school. I misunderstood and thought today was the last day. Turned out it was Monday! I grabbed fabric out of my stash and whipped together these mug rugs to match the mugs I bought last week just in time for Calista and Wesley to give them to the teachers Monday afternoon.

(Yes, it takes THREE teachers to control a room full of two/three year olds!)

They rise up and call me blessed!

My Mother's Day was filled with the blessings of my kids telling me they love me. I got to be with all of them-- three kids, three grandboys, 2 wonderful sons-in-law and one baby granddaughter-to-be. We spent the afternoon at the farm (where daughter #1 lives with her family). Our son was there helping with some work on their house. He provided the meat and #1 son-in-law grilled it.

The irises out there were the most beautiful I've ever seen. So I picked a bouquet and brought them home with me to add to the lighter colors I have in my own garden. My peonies are also blooming and smell heavenly!

Later #2 daughter came over and took us out to dinner. I LOVE being a mom! God has richly blessed me!

One down.....how many more to go??

Yippeeeee!!!! I finished baby Nola's first quilt top. I find myself wondering how many quilts I'll make for her in her lifetime. I think my first granddaughter can't have too many quilts, right?
This one will be an every day kind of quilt and the other one that I'm appliquéing by hand will be for decorating the nursery.

Quilt progress

I'm back from Missouri, had a GREAT time at the school reunion and hit the ground running today! There always seems to be so much to do after coming home from a trip. The first thing was to get the laundry going and then go pick up Skippy from the vet. She spent the weekend there being tested for a UTI. She acted like she didn't know me when I picked her up but seems to be over it now. No test results yet and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't pee on my bed again!

I'm making progress on both quilts for baby Nola. I promised myself that I would sew some today even if I felt like I didn't have time. So here are the pictures of the progress. Now I must make dinner for my grandboys and then go to Gabe's 7th grade music program tonight. I went to Timothy's 2nd grade program Thursday night and will go to Wesley's preschool program this Thursday. WHEW!!!!! I'm tired!

UFO'S and What I've Been Up To!

After Leslie and I spent 4 days in Paducah plus 2 days on the road, I've had a hard time getting back "down to earth" in the everyday world. I spent one day catching up on laundry, another day with my stitch group, another day running errands....well, you get the picture.

So four days at home and I'm on the go again. This time headed to Missouri for my "All School Reunion" hoping to reunite with quite a few of my class (which only had 39 in it). It's the 40th anniversary since our graduation from high school!

I'm also "knee deep" in quiltS for the new baby granddaughter Nola Fay and hoping to get at least one done before the first shower on June 23...or at least before she's born in August!

The picture of the strips hanging on my closet curtain I started over a year ago and really didn't like the way it was turning out. So I took all the strips down and started cutting them up and adding some appliqué. Maybe I'll get it done this month.

I'm also working on the nursery quilt. I'm hand appliquéing it. The picture is the pattern by Bunny Hill Designs. I bought enough pink and grey fabric in Paducah to make 7 of these quilts! I have two blocks done, one being the little shoes pictured.

Also, I took the black and red table runner to Kat for her to quilt for me and I hope to get it back and finished. So does that count as a UFO for this month because it was a UFO for last month, too!

I'll link up to Carrie's blog and "register" these UFO's. you can see the others at:

I apologize for not posting pictures of the quilt show in Paducah but it's forbidden without permission from the quilt owners and AQS. So sorry! They were stunning!
