Sue Spargo Workshop

My quilt guild was lucky enough to get Sue Spargo come for 2 lectures and a 3 day workshop this past weekend. And I was lucky enough to get to attend. There were 4 of us from my stitch group. We had a great time! I didn't accomplish a whole lot but I plan to finish this project someday soon. I learned a lot about working on wool using different threads and different embroidery stitches and embellishments.

Included in the pictures to follow are: my unfinished project, Sue's finished project; my friend Leslie and me, Sue and me, my friends Emma and Judy; a couple of close ups of the bees and bugs we learned to make.

Happy First Day of Spring

I know, I know, it's a little early to be celebrating spring, especially for those of you further north. And we do have a bit of snow in the forecast in the next few days, but this is Oklahoma and it will soon be warm (and usually much warmer than we want).

It does make me happy, though to see the creeping flox blooming and the peonies sprouting.
Soon there will be lots of color around the neighborhood.

I thought it was time to take the Valentine's quilt off the wall and replace it with one that hasn't hung for quite some time. Also, I got out my handmade egg collection (well really a chicken MADE them but some people hand painted some and decorated them in other ways). Most are from Slovakia (we have friends there), and the newest painted one came from Austria (a friend visited there this past summer).

So...I'm ready for spring and ready for Easter. And......ready for a Sue Spargo workshop that I'll be in the next 3 days! Hooray!

My BFF's quilt top

I just had to post this picture of my friend Leslie's beautiful quilt top that she just finished today. I think she got tired of me nagging her to finish it! I knew it would be as beautiful as we had imagined. And it is! I can hardly wait to see what it will look like when it's quilted.

Details: hand appliquéd wool on flannel

I LOVE this quilt!!!!!

I can't get over the quilting that FABULOUS Donna T. did on my quilt! This little quilt was the result of a mistake I made. I used the wrong size pentagons when doing the English Paper Piecing and the pieces didn't fit together like the pattern showed. I'm not one to do a lot of ripping out so I took the pieces and found a way to make them work in another way. I am really happy with the way it turned out and the quilting just made it that much more wonderful.

Details: hand English paper piecing, hand appliqué. Machine pieced. Wool batting. 40 1/2" square.

Started last summer. Finished today!

A February Finish

This is one of the quilts from my February UFO list. Got it back from quilter Theresa C. (Who happens to live in my neighborhood! Lucky Me!). I got it trimmed up and put the binding on it yesterday. It will soon be shipped off to my niece who had baby Theodore a couple of months ago. This one is big enough to take him at least through kindergarten.

Grandson Gabe is now tall enough to be a quilt holder. I love it that his shoes match the quilt!

My first March finish

Quilted, bound, labeled and in the hands of its recipient, my friend Cindy. Cindy makes some incredible artsy quilts. This is my attempt at artsy.

In addition to this finish, I got the other 2 from last month back from the quilters. More pictures soon....after I get the bindings on.

March UFO's

These are the three UFO's I've chosen to try to finish in March for Carrie's challenge here:  http://apassionforapplique.blogspot.com/2013/03/march-giveaway.html

I still have two items from February being quilted and I'll try to get the bindings on them, too.

These three are small wall hangings/table runners. Should be easy to finish, right?

In the meantime my stitch group (6 of us, off and on) are trying to make three quilts for a worthy cause and get them done by Memorial Day. More on that later.

Another finish

Even though this was not on my UFO list, I finished it in February and delivered it to my cousin in Missouri on my way back from Kentucky. It fits perfectly on her buffet. I've made 3 of my female cousins quilts. I have a few more to go!  The colors are close to the second picture.  Quilting by Kat LeFevre.
