Another Gift from God

I brought my Hibiscus plants and Gardenia in from the patio to keep them from freezing this week. The Hibiscus obviously likes being in the house. Isn't it beautiful!

Stitch Group

Part of my stitch group came over today for lunch. Thought I'd show you some of their "works in progress" Here are June (hand embroidery and machine piecing) and Emma (hand applique).

My really, really, really, good friend Leslie. She's taking a class in hand piecing. She loves doing most of her work by hand and she's really good at it. (Requires patience)

Speaking of patience...this stocking Coleen(doesn't she have a terrific smile?!) knitted is quite detailed. Santa even has a rhinestone buckle on his belt. She made this for one of her close relatives. They are Auborn, Alabama fans.

Our friends John and Cindy spent the night with us last night. Cindy showed me some of her "works in progress". This one is so colorful!

This is Cindy's Salmon wallhanging. They spent the summer in Alaska, thus the salmon.

Birthday Celebration

I'm so blessed with friends and family. My stitch group (T-Town Stitchers) gave me a birthday party Thursday morning. Then I went from that meeting to the Cotton Patch (www.ecottonpatch.com) where I work part-time for another party. They are all SO GOOD to me. Tim gave me the beautiful wool cape that he bought in Vermont while we were there. Calista made me a beautiful had and scarf that I took along on our trip. I used them when we were on top of the highest mountain in Vermont.

Birthday Celebration

I celebrated a birthday this past Friday. My sister Greta, her husband Joe and daughters Brittany and Lora Beth were here from Missouri. We enjoyed a great weekend together. Andrea shot Brittany's senior pictures Saturday afternoon. She's a great photographer and she likes to pose, too.

Crazy Quilt

When I was in Pennyslvania I took a tour of some of the sorounding areas while Tim was at his geology convention. The tour guide told us wives tons of fascinating facts about the towns and their significance in American history. We visited a little town called Ligonier where there was an old fort that had something to do with George Washington (the tour guide read it all so it became quite boring rather quickly). Anyway, we got to shop and I found this beautiful little quilt in an antique shop. The tag said it was made in the 1880's. It's made of silk and velvet and has very few imperfections. I plan to have it appraised.

Vermont Vacation

We just returned from our FABULOUS fall trip to Vermont. This is something Tim and I have wanted to do our entire married lives (33 years). Tim had a convention to attend in Pittsburg at the beginning of this week so we left a week before and toured Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont and a bit of New Hampshire. The fall foliage was breathtaking. He also took me to a few quilt shops, one of which is a huge shop in Center Harbor, New Hampshire called Keepsake Quilting. You hardcore quilters will know the name. When we got to Pittsburg, we met up with old friends of ours that were our neighbors (and fellow geology grad student) when we lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1976-77. We hadn't seen John and Jan in 29 years. We had a great reunion with them and spent hours talking, laughing and reminiscing (also filling each other in on the last 29 years). We missed our kids and grandkids but have been reunited with them now and are glad to be home.

Quilter's Pow Wow

Just got back from the annual Quilter's Pow Wow at Lake Ft. Gibson. I had a great time and spent time with some really special ladies. Leslie and I got to share a cabin with some friends we've known a little while and also with some new friends. We got some sewing done on projects we've been wanting to do and we also took a class on Sat. afternoon. The weather and the lake were beautiful

Flowers

Just in case anyone wanted to see how beautiful my flowers are. I think flowers are like grace. We don't deserve them, but God gives them to us because He loves us.

In January of 2007 I went to Hawaii with 5 freinds. Being that we were all quilters we could not stay out of a particular fabric store on the island of Kaui. We decided to challenge each other to make quilts out of fabric we bought there. We each bought a yard of our own choice and divided it into six 14"x18" pieces. We gave each other a piece of our fabric. The rule was that we had to use all six pieces but could add any other Hawaiian fabric to it. Five of us had our quilts done in time to display them at our Green Country Quilters Guild show in June (Greencountryquiltersguild.com)
Here, I'm pictured with Leslie at the show. Her quilt is the one with the flip flops. She also entered it in this year's Tulsa State Fair. If you happen to go, look for it. My quilt is the larger one with the circles. The others belong to my friends June, Coleen and Emma.
