My Sewing Room

As promised, here are some pictures of the sewing room. I'm excited to get in there and mess it up now with some heavy-duty quilt making! Actually, I'll be getting ready to go this weekend to the annual quilter's "Pow-Wow" at Fort Gibson Lake. This will be my third year and I have lots of preparations to get everything ready to go. I'm taking one class and then just sewing on some fun projects the rest of the time.

Catherine's prize-winning quilt

Here is Catherine's quilt before it was quilted and as it was displayed at the Tulsa State Fair.

New studio

For the last few weeks, I've been busy re-organizing my sewing room. Or maybe I should just say ORGANIZING. I never got around to really getting things in order after moving into this house last year. My friend David (an amazing contractor/remodler) installed wood flooring (the shaggy carpet just didn't work out--i.e. pin through the foot, etc). Then he constructed a really great design wall. I bought cabinets from IKEA and he put them together and installed them. I have most of the fabric folded and displayed now where I can see it all. The cabinets have glass doors. Finally, today I got everything off the top of the cutting table and sewing table. I'm ready to start sewing again. I'll have pictures soon.

State Fair

I didn't win a ribbon, but Catherine did! She got a red ribbon (second place) in her age group. Unfortunately, they did not have a "quilt cateory". She had to enter it under "sewing, other than clothing". A stuffed dragon beat her! She is extremely excited. I'll show a picture of her quilt after I download my pictures from my camera. Leslie did not win either. I was disappointed for her. She deserved a ribbon in my opinion. Oh well! It's really neat that our work gets viewed by tens of thousands of people.

This is my latest large project. The center hexagons are all done completely by hand. The braided borders and the rest of the piecing is done on the machine but took almost as much time as the center. TONIGHT IS THE BIG NIGHT!!! I've entered this quilt in the Tulsa State Fair and tonight is opening night. So tonight Tim, Aaron and I will go see if it won a ribbon. It's a tradition in our family to go opening night. My friend Leslie also entered. I'll show her quilt later. Also, Catherine G. entered this year. This is her first quilt and it will be displayed in the Just For Kids building. We are so excited for her. She is 13 and I've spent the last year off and on teaching her to sew. She's a fast learner and has made an absolutely beautiful quilt. By the way, Donna T. of Inola quilted mine and Catherine's. She does BEAUTIFUL work.

First Post

Here I am!!! I started a blog over a year ago and then didn't know how to add to it. So Andrea (daughter) has helped me start again. I'll be showing my quilts that I make and love on this blog. This one I made for a friend who had twins. There is another one very similar. The animal print is a cotton velvet which was not fun to sew. I'll show you the other one later.
